Today 5 Sandringham SC teams played in the Caruana Cup hosted by East Bentleigh. It was a fantastic day with 3 teams reaching the finals - U8s, U10s and U10 Girls. The day was topped off with the U10 Girls taking out the Champions cup. Well done everyone
The first Over 55s match occurred on Sunday and it was a resounding success. The 12 foundation members include well known local entities Steve Stroud and Geoff Michaelides. A very enjoyable match was played at a ‘pedestrian’ pace but certainly not lacking skills. There were smiles all round after the match and even the Italians behaved on the pitch. Eltham step up to the plate this week and 3 of the Sandribgham crew have nominated to help make up the numbers. Some pictures of the event are below. Please encourage more mature gents to get involved. (Sandy in Blue – Steve is No 13, Geoff tackling Juve No 9)
Our Womens Premier League girls were victorious in their Knockout Cup Grand Final held over the long weekend Sunday 9th June with a 1-0 win over their rivals Sth Melbourne. This was a re-match of the 2012 Grand Final but tipped in our favour. Congratulations to the girls!
We had 9 of our Junior and Subjunior players act as Mascots and played an SSF game at half time. They enjoyed watching the match too.
Over the course of two days our U9 Kangaroo 1 team entered an indoor 5 a side competition against 6 other teams. They played 3 × 30 min games on the first day and 2 games on the second. We are pleased to report that they came in second place. Congratulations to the team, they worked very hard and deserved this fantastic outcome. Thank you to their coach, Michael Krauser, for giving up his weekend for this event.
Well done to Sienna Fogarty and Steph Tanti in their selection for Cobras/Melbourne Heart Futsal Team for 2013. Here they are receiving their kit.
Sandringham U11 Girls took out top honours winning their U11 Division at Total Girls in Ballarat over the weekend 23/24th March. An amazing effort for the girls with 5 wins & 1 draw scoring 15 goals for & only conceding 1 against! Great effort by all the girls and Coach Sophia Ali!
Thankyou to the many volunteers who helped Kevin Maher run the fundraiser sausage sizzle on Thursday. Much fun was had by all on the windy day. Not only was it a normal working day and the last day of school Term 1 but it was also the day before Good Friday!
The day was a successful one financially with another one being run on Easter Monday!

The Sandringham U/13 A girls have kept their record intact and won the Total Girls tournament last weekend. That makes it 5 in a row for the majority of the girls.
The girls and parents had a ball.
Go Sandy!
On Sunday 24th March the Sandringham u10 A team entered and won the Point Cook Challenge Cup.
The set up was similar to our own Castlefield Tournament, with 8 teams in 2 groups of 4, eventually leading to a grand final. Teams were from all over Victoria, including teams from Point Cook, Werribee, Altona, Moreland and Sydenham.
The Sandy boys stormed into the final, winning every game. The whole team played well. They passed well, played well as a team, pressured the ball and took their chances, everything they have been working on at training.
By the time the final came, it was warm and windy, the boys were also getting tired. In the final they played a very exciting team in Altona who had also won every game en route to the final.
The final was a tense affair with both teams having some early chances. Through great team work our boys eventually took control and went onto win the Cup 3-1.
A great start to the season, well done boys!
Congratulations to our Senior Men who finished top in the Casey Comets Tournament over the weekend 17/18 March and went on to beat State 2 side, Dandenong City FC 1-0 in the final on Tuesday 19th MArch to win the 2013 Casey Cup.
Melbourne Victory offered the opportunity for 12 of our young players to be Ball Kids for the Melbourne Victory v Wellington Phoenix game on 5th November 2012. Our volunteers were excited to be on the pitch collecting balls and throwing them in when needed.
A hilarious and highly inappropriate evening of Bogan Bingo was the theme for our annual fundraiser this year. All attendees got into the spirit and dressed up as Bogans. The Social committee did a brilliant job in sourcing items for the Silent Auctions and Raffles and setting up the hall. Thanks to the many people who helped with all the organising and setting up and packing up. Thanks also to our many teams and individual members who took the time to donate the most amazing Team Hampers and other donations for our Silent Auction items.
The Bogan Bingo crew were amazing. Highlights were the Air Guitar competition and the strip game! A very adult evening which was lots of fun! Who would have thought Bingo could be so funny!
On a serious side, the night raised close to $9000. This will help go towards the many equipment purchases required for next season. Thanks everyone for your support.
Melbourne Heart players Stephen Gray and David Williams came to Sandringham SC for a meet and greet. Our players were thrilled to meet some of their soccer heros. Autographs and photos were the theme for the night.
Sandringham Soccer Club hosted their first Small Sided Football World Cup.
Over 150 'Goal kick' boys and girls ranging from U5s up to U7s participated in a series of non-competitive 4v4 games. There were a lot of goals, good teamwork and flashes of skill seen throughout the morning and a great time was had by all.
Newly appointed Director of Coaching Eugene Lawrenz said the purpose of the day was to mix things up and give players a chance to express themselves in a fun filled day of gameplay.
"Normally the kids play in groups of 10 or so with 2 or 3 coaches, and do a few fun skill games followed by a 4v4 or 5v5. Although it is always based on using game based activities as opposed to drills, doing things that are fun and maximum participation, it is still a good idea sometimes just to have a morning of several short matches. The players, coaches and parents really enjoyed playing against different groups and the match day feel of it, and so we intend to do it a couple of more times before the end of the season."
Fair play was also a theme throughout the day with teams shaking hands with their opponents before and after each match to reinforce the spirit of the World Cup and teach kids about the importance of respect.

Sandringham Soccer Girls recently descended upon the Total Girl Soccer Tournament in Ballarat, coming away with some amazing results. With over 1200 girls competing throughout, Sandringam's coningent was 80+ strong ranging in ages from u/11 - u/16 in a unique, 7 A side format. To say the results were staggering would be an understatement:
With the standard recognized as the toughest since the tournament's inception, the final outcome exceeded all expectations. Even more noticeable, with the excellent conditions provided, was the technical expertise displayed by all Sandringham teams. This truly is a credit to all current coaches and is testimony to the programs in place over the past 5 - 10 years. Congratulations Total Girl! Congratulations Sandringham!!
