Junior Girls

The Sandringham Soccer Club has one largest and longest running girls' programs in Victoria.

Our Club has experienced a phenomenal growth in the number of girls playing soccer since 1997 when the club had a lone U14 team. By 2002 our program had expanded to three teams…one U12, one U14 and one U18 team. In 2003 we fielded 10 girls' teams in that year, three U12's, three U14's, two U16's, an U18 and for the first time an Open Women's team. In 2004, the FFV introduced an U10 girls' competition and we fielded 14 teams. Sandringham Soccer Club fields Bayside's first Premier League Women's Team. The number of girls playing in mixed sub-junior teams and participating in our goal kick program has also grown significantly. Girls now comprise more than a third of the total number of players at our club.

The Sandringham Soccer Club is part of the Southeast Region of Football Federation Victoria (FFV). FFV arranges fixtures for all junior girls' games. Season fixtures including location of games, names of opposing clubs, and league ladders for our junior girls' teams can be found by clicking on the Fixtures/Results button on our home page.

We have all female teams from U9 girls through to Open Women. See Miniroos section for information on the U9-U11 Miniroos Girls. Generally, females U16 and over are invited to play on one of our Women's League teams. For more information on our Open Women's program, please visit the Open Women's page under Our Teams/Programs on the home page. No experience is necessary for any of our age groups as from U11 up the competition is graded and generally girls will be assigned to teams based on their skill levels.

For more information, please see our Girls' Program FAQ's below.

Sandringham Soccer Club Girls Program FAQ'S

Question: When will the season start? When and where are the games played? How long does the season last?

  • Games are played on a Sunday. The season begins in late April/early May. The duration of the season depends on the number of teams entered in each age group but generally the last game is around the first Sunday in September, with breaks during the school holidays. For this season's start and end dates, please visit our season timetable under Info for Members.
  • Half of the games are home games and half are away games. Kick-off times vary as the FFV leaves it to the discretion of each club to nominate kick-off times for girls' games. Generally, U11 and U/12's play Sunday morning and U/14 and up from 12:00 PM on.

Question: How long do the games last?

  • The duration of games is based on your age group. U11's, U12's play 2 × 25 minute halves; U13/U14's play 2 × 30 minute halves; U15/16's play 2 × 35 halves.

Question: What age group should I sign up for?

  • Age groups are calculated by calendar year. What this means is that if a player turns 11 at any time during the calendar year (even after the season ends), she will play in an U11 team.
  • Generally, players U16 and older are invited to play on one of our Women's League teams. Please visit our Open Women's page under Our Teams/Programs on our home page for more information on our women's teams and program.

Question: How do I register? How much will it cost?

  • Fees are based on age and not on the team in which you play as registration fees are based on the cost of insuring each player. Please visit our Register to Play page for this year's fees and registration information.
  • Generous family and concession card discounts are available.

Question: What do I need to play?

  • All players are required to wear soccer boots and shin pads both to training and during games.
  • Sandringham Soccer Club official shirts, shorts and socks must be worn and are purchased from the club. Note that the club will assign shirt numbers to avoid duplications in an age group.

Question: Do I need to have played before?

  • No. Players of all abilities and skill levels are welcome. You will be assigned to a team with players of similar ability.

Question: How will I be assigned to a team?

  • The FFV competition from U11's and older is a graded competition. Depending on player registration numbers, our club will be creating more than one team from the pool of available players in any age group and making team assignments based on a player's ability and experience. A number of informal training/grading sessions will be held for girls in any age group prior to making team assignments. Final team assignments will occur as soon as possible after the registration deadline. You will be contacted by your coach or team manager regarding your team assignment and your training time.
  • Consideration will be given to friendship groups when making team assignments for for girls who are on teams other than "A" teams. Please indicate on your registration form if you have a friend who you want to play with.
  • Please visit our Club Policies for more information about our grading and team assignment guidelines.

Question: When and where does training occur?

  • Generally, each team has a weekly training session of approximately 1 1/2 hours duration. It is up to the coach to determine which day of the week that is best suited to his schedule. If there is a day on which you cannot train, please indicate this on your registration form.
  • Training is usually conducted at Spring Street in Sandringham (Melways Ref: 77 A12).
