Miniroos soccer consists of mixed teams of boys and girls ranging in age from U7's up to and including U11's. Girls are welcome to play on any of our Miniroos Mixed teams if they wish. However, girls U8 to U11 can also choose to play on an all-girl U9 or U11 team. Miniroos Mixed games are played on a Saturday morning and the Miniroos Girls games are played on a Sunday morning. Our home ground is at Holloway Road, Sandringham (Mel. 77 B11). FFV arranges fixtures for all Miniroos games and these can be found by clicking on the Fixtures/Results button on our home page.
FFV under the direction and leadership of Football Federation Australia playing format for younger players is called "Miniroos". This is a modified version of the game designed to aid the skills development of younger players. The games are played on a smaller playing field and with a smaller number of players per "team". There is no positional play so players are expected to be both attackers and defenders and goal scorers. The smaller sized fields with fewer numbers of players per team encourages more touches on the ball and opportunities for more goals to be scored.
The Miniroos concept was introduced nationwide for U7 and U8 players in 2008, U9 and U10 players in 2009 and U11 players in 2010. FFV changed the name from "Small Sided Football" to "Miniroos" in 2014. FFV introduced Joeys, Wallabies and Kangaroos leagues allowing players to compete at a level matching their ability.
Miniroos games for U7's through U11's are on Saturday mornings on a home and away basis in a club versus club format. U7 games consist of two 15 minute halves with five players per side, no goalie and with parents serving as "game leaders". Miniroos for U8 and U9 players consists of two 20 minute halves with 7 per side including a goalkeeper, and for U10 and U11 players consists of two 25 minute halves with 9 per side including a goalkeeper, and for all "an instructing referee". These games are generally refereed by parents but our club provides referees that have been trained under our “Budding Referee" program (Junior players U12-U14) for home games.
For more information please see the Handbooks on the Info for Members page.
All players will be assigned to a team and an hour long skill training session will be conducted during the week at our training ground at Spring Street.
No league ladders or scores are recorded for the Miniroos games as the emphasis is on having fun and developing fundamental soccer skills within a team environment. Our Director of Coaching will oversee this program to ensure that our all players are provided with the best possible coaching to allow for maximum skills development.
